How to Walk Your Way to a Wonderful You

Living a healthy lifestyle is not as difficult as some have made it out to be.  A few simple habit changes can make a huge difference.  My quick tips involve eliminating sugar drinks, eating more veggies and walking.

Did you realize that walking 5 minutes every day for one month will change your health and your life?  That is a simple 2 1/2 IMG_7131minute walk out you front door and then 2 1/2 minutes back home; simple as pie.

Think about the times you wished you could drop a few pounds, but then left that thought in the wish pile.  What if you made a decision today to walk 5 minutes every day for one week?  Then after realizing how simple a 5 minute commitment is, you extended the week to one month?  And then one month to 12 months?

If you combine this simple 5 minute walk with a few simple eating changes you can live a healthier lifestyle and maybe drop a few pounds while you’re at it!

Here are a few suggestions for food changes:

  • only drink water/never drink sugary drinks
  • eliminate processed food
  • avoid fast food
  • eat 1 serving of veggies 3 times per week
  • monitor your calories
  • eat more raw fruit and nuts

Don’t go changing too much at once!  Remember, we are taking baby steps.  Maybe pick to drink more water throughout the day for a couple weeks, then begin eating a few servings of veggies.  Whatever you do, don’t change too much at once.

Decide today to walk 5 minutes each day and take back your health one small step at a time!

  1. agree except for the gradual change. Many people need a shock. Jump in 150% in. Commit and you’ll have more chances of success as long as you have a determined vision and plan to get to the goal.

    1. That is how I do things. In this instance I think the 150% in is committing to the walking. Then make other changes once the keystone habit is in place. In my experience, those that have low will power must make baby steps or failure occurs 100% of the time.

  2. Excellent tips for good health, which I have utilized daily for as long as I can remember. Fresh ingredients only, no fast / processed foods, and walking (or riding a bicycle) to the beach every day is something I enjoy. I’m thankful every day for my choice to move away from the city and back to a small, coastal town!

  3. This is such good advice. Back in 1989, I started out walking 5 minutes away from my house and 5 minutes back. So okay, ten minutes total. Today, I walk six miles a day, every day, and spend at least 90 minutes a day engaged in some activity that gets me off my butt. Am I healthier? You betcha!!
