We are spending the month of December discussing my post 31 Ways to Achieve Amazing New Year’s Resolution Success. You can find my first two posts on the subject here and here.
Next up on the list is #3: Identify a resolution to which you have a true desire to change or improve.
When it comes to goal achievement in general, desire is the beginning! I site Napoleon Hill’s view on the subject:
There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it.
You cannot begin your quest to incorporate new habits based on another person’s desire. You must have the desire inside you before you begin!! If you don’t have desire , then you will most likely fail.
As you utilize December as your time of preparation, decide on a resolution that you have a true desire to achieve. Ask yourself what is the one thing you have always wanted to improve in your life. Once you have that answer, determine if you have a “burning desire” to achieve said goal.
I clearly recall when Evelina and I made the decision to begin living a healthier lifestyle. I had tinkered around with the idea of losing weight and had lost weight in the past, but I had never resolved to transform my lifestyle. Going into December 2014, I had made a resolute decision that I was going to change and failure was not an option! I had that burning desire to which Napoleon Hill refers!
The success or failure of your endeavor will hinge on your choice in resolutions and the level to which you desire your goal. Do you have true desire or wishful thinking?
Take time and search yourself. Be honest and choose wisely!
