Let me ask you a question:

What was the first car you ever owned?

  1. Late 60s early 70s Toyota Corolla. Built in Okinawa made for Okinawa use, it was all in metric system. When I had to replace the battery I had to have the battery box box redone. I bought it from my sorority sister who lives on open out with her family. I bought it for 500, I was in an accident and got 500 from the insurance company, and I sold it for 500.

  2. I had a 1996 Hyundai Accent. It was silver with cute purple racing lines. When I bought it, I couldn’t even drive a manual transmission and the sales guy had to drive it on base for me. I spent a week learning how to drive it by the aircraft carrier piers at night when the parking lot was empty. Best part it only took 20 dollars to fill it up. I drove back and forth to Cincinnati on two tanks of gas. Man…I wish I still had my car. I can only imagine how much I would save on gas each year.

      • I remember getting in it and my dad sitting there quietly laughing as I moved my feet around the floor board searching for the clutch. He also got a nice chuckle when we got it home and he told me to check the radiator.

You are correct, I believe it was the Dodge Challenger.

  3. AMC Gremlin, but only a month before I discovered how bad a lemon it was. The first car I truly owned was a 1991 Ford Escort. Sadly, I lost that vehicle after 19 months when it was destroyed in a hail storm – – – baseball size hail.

  4. It was a 1961 Chrysler New Yorker – one of those great finned boats of a car – about 3,000 pounds of steel with a 426 V8 (not the famous Hemi-head, but a 4 barrel carb) I bought it with my savings from my tour in Nam when I got back to the World in ’69. One of its advantages was a huge trunk for all the stuff I wouldn’t have storage space for at my next assignment. All in all, a classic highway cruiser.

  5. A 1967 chocolate brown Camaro with black leather bucket seats. You’ve heard of cars being “chick magnets?” Well, this car was a “dude magnet!” All of the boys I knew in high school begged me to let them drive my car. I, of course, didn’t know what I had at the time, but my son has, since, informed me. It was beautiful, and fast, and needed oil more often than it needed gas. Thanks for reminding me of some wonderful old memories. 🙂

  6. I was once given a Subaru and told that it’s now my car. Until my brother started driving and then the car was no longer mine… So the first car I felt I truly owned was a Volkswagen Passat after I we had our first baby. Unfortunately I bought it only 6 months before we moved to Australia, not knowing then that we would move. So I had to sell it again and given the crazy prices for cars in Australia the budget didn’t allow me to buy the same car again. Doesn’t matter. We are very happy with the one we drive ever since then.
