Let me ask you a question:

How many lies do you tell per day?

**White lies count too!

  1. Well, since I’m not living with any other humans, there is little opportunity on a daily basis to lie to anybody other than myself in person. As for lies to myself, only the most obvious can be counted, and the othes may be functional sometimes. Other than that, I do hope I’m not grossly misrepresenting myself in the cyber realm, although, I suppose the unrecognized one I tell myself would spread there. In short, I don’t know.

  2. Unfortunately I think I tell a lotπŸ˜”. Like “dinner will be ready in a few minutes” when it’s really like half an hour. “I don’t know anything about _____” when I really do but can’t say so as not to betray trust. “I’ll be off the phone/computer in just a minute.” More like 20. With kids I feel like I am constantly telling white lies. Does it count if they aren’t really lies when I say them, but become lies in a few minutes when I don’t do something?

  3. White lies are a part of the job. Things like covering for the company when something doesn’t get ordered, by saying it’s delayed or leading a client a certain way that benefits the company. 5-6 times a day. In my personal life, I’ve tried to eliminate them. There is the occasional saying I’m under the weather to get out of going somewhere, but we are big believers in karma so we try to stay from that kind of thing.

  4. None. I have no chance to lie because in London one rarely communicates with people except by exchanging the conventional”How are you” . Anyway usually when people reply “Very well thank you” most of the time they are lying because in reality very few people are happy and well everyday, but I’m always well and content therefore even in that case I’m never lying. .

  5. I deal with medical insurance carriers and irate patients (I’m typically on their side, it’s the insurance carriers I have it out for) all day long. You take a good guess on that one.

  6. I am not now, nor have I ever been a flat out liar.. I tell lies to avoid hurting someone with a truth that would only do damage. I also lie to someone because I just want them to get the heck out of my life and I don’t care if they know they have been lied to.

    • I would hazard a guess that most people do the same. I’ve never met someone who doesn’t tell white lies or lies to avoid damage. I just don’t believe a person exists who is completely honest 100% of the time.

  7. Lying is a something I have incredibly strong feelings about. There are most certainly two types of lies. One being the white lie which I own up to doing. I will say ‘I’m fine’ when I’m not. I will be polite to someone I don’t like. I will tell my son everything is fine when I’m not sure it is.

But personally when it comes to the big stuff, being lied to is the worst thing a person can do to me. I hate it. I can’t even express how much I detest liars. I think they are cowards. I am extremely forgiving if you own your crap. I know people mess up, that’s expected, but to lie about it just means you’re weak OR you don’t respect me enough to be truthful.
I don’t want to be that person.
So yes, I lie on occasion about little things to protect people or because I don’t want to explain that I’m feeling pissy or sad…but the big stuff…I don’t do it.
