Let Me Ask You A Question – 6/9/17

This morning I talked about ads on my site..  Let me ask you a question…

Do concern yourself with views on your page?  Or do you ignore stats all together?

  1. I used to but I’ve come to realize is that it only gives an idea on high level trends. I’ll take a look but I don’t get depressed about it. If anything it gives me material for poking fun at myself.

  2. Stats are fun to check out, but it’s easy to draw the wrong conclusion from the numbers. My stats decrease when I’m not interacting much and increase when I interact often.

    • I am still a stats junkie although I use them differently than I did a few years ago. I use them to help me decide on the types of posts I create. Engagement is the determiner

  3. I check the stats often on days I’ve done a post. But do you want to know my deepest blogging secret? When someone follows me or likes a post, I’ll go to their page, I’ll of course read some of their posts, if I like something I’ll comment on it. But I also….check how many followers they have for validation. How terrible is that?!? I feel awful just typing it!! My theory is that if someone has a popular blog, with several followers and they “like” something of mine, then maybe I’m not too too awful. Please tell me someone else does this? I can’t be the only one, right? For the record I very much appreciate any and all likes or interaction!

    • I agree that interaction should be the barometer. I use the other stats to allow me to gauge whether a segment I am running is “likable”. Comments are great, but such a small percentage of people comment that I don’t allow that to be the only gauge.

  4. I wish I could say that I don’t pay attention to stats… But I would be lying. I have a love/hate relationship with statistics, which is why I now (try to) focus on flags. I work hard, telling myself stats are just numbers when the readings are low… But I do get that warm feeling when I have a good day, and it is motivating.

I never post just to get views… But I do keep an eye on what people enjoy or not. 🙂

  5. Good question. I didn’t think about it until now. I was shocked to see how many followers I have. The last time I looked it was way less than now.
I have a question. Why? Does it matter? Am I missing something that I should know about? I know that’s three questions but now you have me thinking It matters.

    • Stats are a great gauge to measure interaction. They help me understand if my readers enjoy the segments I am sharing or producing. For instance, I’ll probably never stop the “Question” post because each day they get tons of comments and interaction.

  6. I don’t really pay attention to them. I will occasionally look, but I’m more focused on writing, sharing and reading. I am always surprised when I get new followers and I had a somewhat slow posting week, but I’m grateful nonetheless.
