  1. It doesn’t really answer your question, but I have an anecdote that fits, I think (surprise, surprise)

I was ready to go to surgery, and they had taken my glasses (I am almost blind without them) and the anasthesist came by my bed (he told me he was… I trusted him. He could have been dressed as a clown, I wouldn’t have noticed). He was going through my file when he said, obviously surprised “Woah, I can see that you weight XXX pounds, not XXX kilos!”

My brains went crazy, thinking he was about to give me more than twice the dose… And wondering if it was indeed my file he had in his hands… Thinking I might get out of the surgery room lacking a kidney instead of my gull bladder… I was shy and didn’t dare ask him directly. I was trying to find a question that would have to do with my procedure, but didn’t find one because of the stress…

Everything went well, but it was one of the scarriest moments of my life LOL

      1. I was young, terribly shy and nervous about the procedure… Looking back I’m thinking “why didn’t you just ask??” but at the moment, I just couldn’t 😛

  2. The question I heard right before my first heart surgery was “she does have insurance, right?” I was undergoing a shot of anesthesia at the time so I really don’t remember any response.

  3. I love these answers. LOL!!

I can tell you what I heard that terrified me when I waking up from surgery…..

‘No Dr, that’s not your patient!!’

I remember clearly thinking…WAKE UP Nikki, WAKE UPI

    1. I’ve had two surgeries and they had me write on my body to denote the correct shoulder: yes on the right shoulder, no on the left. The nurse told me that is the best way to assure they don’t cut the wrong place. I thought that was such a simplistic way to do it.
