  1. Sure. Especially those that I respect. That said though, if someone I don’t necessarily care about, I don’t lose any sleep over it. I’m just me. Others are welcome to take it or leave it. 😃

  2. I find that mutual respect is important in a good daily life. About respecting me as so, I think, it was like that, while I was educating, but again, I showed mutual respect to my students. And you?

    1. It is important that people respect me. I work hard, try to be a person of character and try to always do the right thing regardless of circumstances. So people respecting me is a validation of sorts that I have lived the type of life I want to live.

  3. I agree with Julia and Kim, in a weird way. If they do they do, if they don’t they don’t, it’s really none of my business.. On one hand though, I do self-reflect often and prefer to be a respectable person, so I’d like to think that the respect factor is there, especially with people I care about. GREAT QUESTION!

    1. I’m not sure I buy it when people lay down a solid “no” and here is why. We are all human and there’s going to be at least a few people whose opinion matters. Therefore I believe everyone has to say yes, if even for 1 person. You mention people we care about which is my go-to example.

  4. Hmmm good one. I can’t force people to respect me. And working on making them respect me seems like a waste of time. I do, though, work harder on respecting people who don’t seem to respect me even more, if just to show them that I am a good person.

      1. I can understand that someone may not respect my life choices and perhaps I do not respect theirs but at least we will respect that we all have different criteria and are living our own truths. Having said that there are some life choices I cannot respect and I am sure there are people who would not respect mine.

  5. I think respect is very important. And I agree when Danny said that you don’t believe no is truly an answer to this question. I think that is because people often confuse respect and rather someone likes you or not maybe? I don’t care if people dislike or have certain opinions about me, but I think they should mutually respect me like I respect them rather I like or dislike them. Respect needs to be practiced more in our society imo. It is a small thing that gets so easily forgotten sometimes. Especially with raising our youth. It is not just important to be respected but to have mutual respect for other human beings. I don’t think the ‘I don’t care what you think about me’ attitude applies to this question. Sure you may not be bothered that a stranger disrespects you when conversing in a simple conversation, but the point is that stranger should mutually show you respect as this creates a better world and happier people. And I would hope you care if your loved ones disrespect or respect you, because if they don\t respect you than they are not really a loved one are they and you need to find a better crowd. Respect is one of the most important things in any kind of relationship be it friendship, family, marriage and so on. It is high up there with trust or at least I would hope it is. If you don’t care who respects you or not, then it seems you have no respect for yourself is what it tells me.

So yes not only is it important for people to respect me, it is something I think respect alone is a very important act and gesture. Mutual respect is important and it is something I always try to do myself. I grew up being told I don’t have to like everyone in my class, work force or people who come into contact with me, but I do have to show them respect.

    1. Thanks for your insights!! I always love it when someone leaves a thorough response because it adds to the conversation as others read through the comments. Job well done!!
      Danny
