  1. I’m not sure how to answer that. Discipline & self control are big components of my life, otherwise I would play games instead of working, or eat only potato chips instead of the various nutrients I require. While discipline is a big part of my life, I’m uncertain that it defines me enough to say that I live a life of it.

  2. You know, I really do. What I’m working on (the past few years) is also to balance that with flexible spontaneity and just plain ol’ living in the moment and cutting myself some slack. Thats been a very big learning curve for me.

      1. No I dont either, but for myself I had to find a balance. I found I was becoming rigid…I had to do this, complete that, etc….now I’ve learned to balance somewhere in the middle. (Most of the time)

  3. Good one Danny. Let’s just say I need to me more disciplined in certain areas of my life. It’s a goal of mine that is on a continuous loop. I start each day trying to be disciplined. Some days I fail, other days I succeed.

    1. I have a verbal cue I use that has helped. Any time my mind says to put something off, I immediately say out loud, “Don’t be lazy” and then I immediately do it. It has worked wonders.

  4. I am terrible with discipline… I am really good when it comes to planning on being disciplined but when it is time to follow the plan…. Hmmmm. Yeah, not so disciplined 😛

  5. Yes, as a photographer discipline is a skill and extremely necessary. When I was a 24/7 caregiver for my wife … compassion and discipline was an absolute. A loved one suffering from dementia requires a high level of discipline especially when the loved one cannot recognize you, where she is, what year it is and so on. Photography taught me disciple and prepared me for a future tragedy. g

    1. Good point. Some people have referenced discipline as if it is a negative thing only to be used sometimes. I see discipline as a positive not something requiring “balance”.

      1. No it can’t be turned on and off. I think that even holidays require some level of discipline even if that means disciplining oneself to take time off from work or other responsibilities and relax.

      2. I agree. I am in the process of changing the types of food I allow myself to eat. My discipline in that area has been weak for years.

  6. In some areas, yes. For example, I have been doing some exercises in the past 3 decades. I’m doing it alone without anybody to encourage me or cheer me up during those times when I don’t feel like doing it.

But in some areas, I really struggle to discipline myself. For example, I always extend my reading time beyond what I promised myself. Or sometimes, I just can’t discipline my mind not to worry about something, let’s say my grandson-to-be.

But in general, yes, that’s the way I live my life everyday. I struggle in some areas, but I do it anyway. 😊
