Let Me Ask You a Question – 6/14/18

Let me ask you a question:

What is the last book you read that at the end you felt like you wasted your time?

  1. I honestly couldn’t say. There are some books that don’t pan out as well as others, while some fly by only to drop off at the end. The last book that truly disappointed me and turned me off to the author for a while was a Dean Koontz book. He’s a great writer but the fact that so many of his stories end up nice and neat with a metaphorical bow tied on them is not quite realistic enough. Some people like it and that’s great, but personally I don’t care for the happy ending scenario all the time.

      • Any of them where the ending involves the protagonist ending up with the people they care about, their dogs, their RV’s, and a happy ending. There are a few of them. It’s great to have a happy ending, but it gets stale when it happens all the time. Another turn off, and I hate to say this about any author, especially Stephen King, is when the book is great all the way through and then it sort of gives up at the end, as though the author runs out of energy, like in IT. It almost felt like he just tossed an ending out rather than leave the reader unable to fully function after all was said and done. The Dark Tower series was a total mind trip, but a lot of other King books kind of leave you with the feeling of being cheated. King is my favorite author though, hands down.

  2. Funny you should ask… I recently read “All That’s Left of Me” and my first thought at the end was ‘seriously?’ And i felt a little like i had just wasted my time, but it only lasted for about s minute…then I realized the book had ended exactly the way I had been hoping it would the whole time! It was strange.

  3. That’s a good question. Right off the top, I can’t think of one that I actually finished that I would consider a waste of time. With some serious pondering, I could probably think of some that I didn’t finish that I would have said that about if I had forced myself to finish them.

  4. Fifty Shades Of Grey. Possibly the worst book I’ve ever read. I really had zero interest, but thought it’d be an easy read, and I wanted to see what all the hubbub was about. I’m still trying to figure that one out. 😏

  5. Me before her or was it her before me. Threw that book across the room. Yesterday I actually read The Idiots Guide to Budddhism and it was so terribly written I gave that one a toss too! I love to learn about other religions and thought this would be a quick sum up of things I’d forgotten. Nope. It got a toss across the room too
