On a scale of 1-10, how healthy are you with 10 being perfect health? Is it important to you to get as close as you can to a 10, to be as healthy as you possibly can?

I used to be a 9.5, but i had some major injuries and surgeries that set me back a bit. I am on my way back though, so currently, I am about a 7.

I think I am a 5. But I have a new goal which started yesterday to get as close to 10 as possible.

That sounds like an EXCELLENT goal!

If I’m being honest, I would say 4. That should change soon though.

My doctor says most in the US are far below 5.

I’d say about an 8. I’m 50 now, but still in good shape and active, no health problems to speak of, and we eat well. I do like sweets every now and then, and unhealthy food at times. I’m not fanatical about my health, but I’m aware of the importance of staying fit and eating right. Especially as I get older. And in my line of work, I get daily reminders of what can happen when one lets things go. It’s eye opening every day I go to work.

For me it is all about food. I have periods of time when I get lazy with my eating.

I guess I’m an 8 and at 61 I’m still running 5k in 23 mins, I’d like to get that down to 20 mins but the motivation wains as you get older and the wine becomes more enticing 😂😂😂

That’s incredible that you can run a 5k. I could not do it.

My comment is, it is what it is. I won’t put a number on it. Funny thing is I have a draft of a post about my feelings on my condition now, but think it’s too depressing, so I’m debating on whether or not to put it out there. You question is in perfect timing.

My question comes from a situation that I’m dealing with right now as well. I had to go for a 2nd colonoscopy in 6 months and had 12 new polyps in that time. So I am evaluating my entire life right now. My health has hit priority #1 and I realize I neglect my health in a serious way.

How do you measure health? And by whose standards?

It’s up to you how you measure.

Are you okay with rating yourself as a 1?

Well, I just had my followup to the surgery done on Monday and it appears to have worked as planned. So, I guess that bumps me up at least one number – maybe at a 7 or 8?

Go for you. I am glad to hear the results are looking good. 🙂

2 years ago, I would have said 2. 12 months ago to the week I was definitely a 6. Today I float around 7 to 8 – the best I will get. I’m pretty happy with that.

A 7 or 8 is a super strong rating. What types of exercise have you found help you maintain that?

Walking and riding my 3 wheeled trike. Honestly though, it was the success of my double spine surgery. Who would have thought the spine has anything to do with any body organ or health. I had one amazing surgeon.

The spine is central to health and I’m so happy to know you have a second chance at health!

Can I use negative numbers? LOL

I guess you could, but I hope your health is a bit better than a negative. 😦

This year has been a bit rough. I was diagnosed with a heart condition this summer and just found out I have myasthenia gravis in November. But, all things considered, I’m doing really well.

It’ll work out. This week is full of doctor’s appointments; neurologist, cardiologist, CT Scan… I’m sure they’ll figure it all out and get me back to (almost) normal.

I recuperating so I’d give myself a 5.

I give myself an 8.5-9.0. I am often amazed at how well I feel at 69 and a survivor of cancer and with replaced hips and a compromised intestinal tract ( cancer surgery) my energy is good and I feel very well indeed. Long may this last.

I would imagine the riding keeps you in incredible shape. That sport requires tremendous physical strength and endurance.

Yes and not many non riders realize that. Thanks Danny

A 6-7? I was doing the keto diet and lost 30 lbs. I started it in June. I got off track last month though. I’m still the same weight. I am going to hit it hard in January. I feel good doing it but at the same time I like eating. Lol. IDK if that makes sense! I was walking and doing yoga. I’m still walking.

I have made a mindset change. I am developing the mind of eating for fuel. This morning I had a 3 egg white omelet with onions, an orange and a cup of cereal with 1/2 cup of whole milk. This was after a solid, extreme interval cardio workout. 2019 is going to be my year of getting to 10, or close to it. For me, and most people, it is all about eating real food like veggies and fruits.

That’s good! In keto, it’s low carb so there’s not many fruits you can eat. It’s more good fat and protein.

My doctor gave me great advice, use common sense. Stay away from fried stuff. Eat raw veggies and fruits. Exercise. Avoid sugar in any form. Don’t drink your calories. Lol.

I am not sure how to put a number to this for you. I am 60 years old and have no chronic age related issues. Growing old is simply a process. It doesn’t have to mean getting weak and ill. To put a number to it for you, 10 being perfect health, then I would say I am an 8. I am working to get stronger and healthier. I intend to live a full, healthy, active and long life. I am shooting for 120 and beyond.
