Let me ask you a question…
It is assumed that if a tree falls in the woods, but there is no one around, that it makes a sound. But how do you really know?

Now it all depends if it falls onto a bed of fluffy cotton wool or falls onto a hard bed of stone. We can test this ourselves or maybe the tree doesn’t cry out unless someone is around to hear it…. oh now I just don’t know.

Without someone to verify it I don’t think we can know for sure.

It’s the same as asking, if no one else know your existence, do you really exist?

That’s a good question too!

We (those of us who have spent much time around trees) have witnessed one or more trees fall and heard the sounds, and also seen and heard it in movies. It does seem a safe expectation that the same is true when the fall is not witnessed by a human.

I guess someone could record it.

I’m a mom and my kids really answered this age old question for me…No there is no sound if no one is there to hear it ❤ I've compared this to motherhood and when my children (all adults now, thank God) make decisions (the sound a tree makes when it's falling) and those decisions are not the best (touching an open flame, you will get burned) and I don't react to there crappy life choices, (the sound), there is no noise. I hope I explained this so people get what I meant. My life is much happier now that I've taken my older sister's advice. "It's not your problem ;)." So no, there is no sound when a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it <3…

then other things heard it. this argument takes into account only human existence when in fact humans are only one extension of nature. we forget about birds who have a sense of hearing as do insects who also feeling moving sensations. just because we can’t communicate with other parts of nature doesn’t mean that they heard or felt nothing.

If it’s tall and is made of wood… Guess what… When it tumbles, it’s gonna come crashing down on other tall woody things. I’m sure that there will be a little bit of sound. 👂

I agree. I do know people who might argue otherwise. That sound requires a receptor.

Because the birds and small animals run! I have no idea.

I think the answer is it makes noise even if we aren’t there. lol

Yes there is sound. All the fairies and goblins and trolls and squirrels and eagles and birds hear it and they report the sound to humans in their neighborhood.

An animal network of sorts.

No because of something to do with vibrations. Cant remember what, but I am sure I have got this right

I think you might be referring to the fact that in order for sound to exist it must have a receiver?

Now, this is a perfect example as to why I never say anything without knowing what I am talking about but try to sound intelligent, I have no idea Danny. It was something I learnt round about age 11
