I have no idea. It’s a very deep question.
Do humans love music more than birds do?
Birds sing more than humans and appear to really enjoy doing so.
Singing is a great way to communicate over a long distance. More effective than shouting. Think wolves, bears, whales.
Now you’ve set my mind pondering. Exactly why I blog!
Music gets inside of you with or without your permission.. It changes darkness into light, Music is made of light and changes us from negative dark thoughts to happy thoughts. Music can cause us to skip and dance!
It has to do with our emotions. Human beings are emotional beings. We have a great power to feel loved or despised, accepted or rejected, compassions or empathy, empowered or powerless etc. Our feelings come from our hearts and we tend to respond to what our hearts tell us.
Music as an art is very emotive. It has the unique ability to reach into our hearts and connect with our emotions. Hence, we easily respond with music because it speaks the same language with our hearts. For every music or sound we listen to appeals to one or more of our emotions.
Words can be easily forgotten but add a tune and a beat to those words, it will linger forever in our hearts.
Because it makes us feel. It has the ability to spark a memory. It is universal.

We (and in many cases, other animals) respond to it in many ways and on many levels, and there is so much variety of it.

I created a “relaxation” playlist and listen to it everyday. It has changed me….for the better.

I would say that at some point it was how we use to communicate and then has developed from there

Many people agree with you. It must be anthropological.

Of course people agree with me, I am always right :-p
I might have a look into it and see if I can find a reason as to why

It’s the timeline of our lives. Not many things in life can bring memories flooding back like a song. Good or bad.

There are so many songs from the 80s that I can remember specific places I was when I heard it. Exactly like a time machine.

This is absolutely my experience. Songs are deeply ingrained and I can still remember words to songs that I haven’t heard in years.
