Danny’s World: We Arrived Safely

I have good news!  The beach is still here and it is well.  We arrived last night and being the party animal I am, I crashed out around 9:30.  But I was able to rise early and catch some walking time by the ocean.  Now my mind is purged and I’m ready to get sunburned!

Danny’s World: I Got A Feelin’, That Today’s Gonna Be A Good Day…

I love my neighborhood early in the morning.  The birds are chirping and the animals are getting things done before the heat hits in the afternoon.  The moon is still out and the humidity is low.  Oh, and did I mention we are leaving for the beach tomorrow night?!  I think it’s going to be a good day!

Evelina and I are leaving Thursday evening or Friday morning to go to the beach house for a couple of days.  There are 2 things to which I am looking forward: late evening walks on the beach and eating the best fried chicken ever!  There is a grocery store that has a cafeteria line and makes fresh, homemade fried chicken, meatloaf, fried okra, mashed potatoes.  I’m getting hungry just thinking about their food!

Danny’s World: 10 Things I Love About Summer

Summer is probably my favorite time of year for many reasons.  Here are my top 10 things I love about summer:Danny's iphone 022

  1.  I love going to the beach.  Everyone who knows me knows I am completely fulfilled when my butt is planted in the sand.
  2. It stays light until 9:00 pm.  I don’t like winters when it gets dark at 5:00 pm.  It is nice having daylight after I get home from work.  I can get things done and enjoy a nice walk with Bentley.
  3. Cities are more active/more things going on.  Charlotte has a lot of cultural events in the summer, but more in a general sense there seems to be stuff to do when it is warmer.
  4. A cool drink on a hot day.  There is nothing like something really cold to drink on one of those hot, southern U.S. days!
  5. Washing the car when it’s really hot.  What better way to cool off?!
  6. The feel of cool air conditioning when you come in from outside.  Southern humidity can be unbearable at times.  I know other parts of the country claim they have humidity, but the south invented it!  And on those humid days when you walk in from outside and the cool conditioned air hits you it’s like heaven.
  7. Sitting outside at our favorite restaurants.  One of our favorite things to do is sit outside with friends listening to the world or music.
  8. Long walks at the park.  Evelina and I spent a lot of time in our courting days at the park so it has become a bit of a family tradition to walk around the park.
  9. Summer means football season is right around the corner.  I miss football, but summer means September is almost here!
  10. The summer means more golf!  And last but definitely not least, GOLF!  My favorite sport.  My shoulder is doing much better and I’ll start playing again in a couple of weeks.  I am super excited to play again as it has been quite some time.

That’s my list, but I’d love to hear what you love about summer.  Drop me a comment, send me an email or comment on one of my social media pages.  Have a great weekend folks!

This time 3 weeks from now Evelina and I will have our toes in the sand of the beaches of Cherry Grove Beach!  I love being able to run off to the beach for a long weekend.  It makes life worth living!

Danny’s World: The Best Gift a Dad Could Give-Happy Father’s Day!

When I was a kid my dad would take us to different places around Myrtle Beach, Southport, Oak Island, Cherry Grove Beach, Wilmington and Ft. Fisher.  It was really cool to see the end of the road on Oak Island and learn about his story living through Hurricane Hazel.  Or maybe taking the ferry over to Ft. Fisher to learn about the history of the fort during the civil war or to visit the aquarium.

Or stopping at the little convenient store on our way out to Southport to buy penny candy!

Or walking out at low tide to find sand dollars and live conch on Oak Island.

Or learning to play shuffle board at the campgrounds.  Fishing in the lake at Myrtle Beach Travel Park and catching a huge fish which was eaten by an alligator.  And then there was flying kites on the beach so high you couldn’t see them after a while.

How about the ice block sitting contest or learning how to set up a campsite and clean out the tents?

How about playing the old baseball games at the Pavilion in downtown?  And I could never forget the skee ball or sitting and listening to the German pipe organ?

And of course I remember visiting the battleship in Wilmington.

The cool thing is I still do all of these things when I go to the beach and have introduced Evelina to them as well.  We now enjoy these experiences nearly every time we go to the house in Cherry Grove.  Such simple things my dad introduced to me will live on in our memories as we make new memories.   And I will pass along these experiences to our future kids.

I find myself telling Evelina the same stories my dad told me each time we go somewhere and she doesn’t stop me.  She has heard the story of the road in Oak Island a hundred times and she listens intently as if hearing the stories for the first time.

Every story, every trip, every spot are so special to me and us.  Happy Father’s Day and thank you for these memories and traditions, Dad!

This collage represents pictures from all those awesome places from my childhood.

Southport, NC

We are headed to the beach for a weekend in a few weeks and I cannot wait.  Life seems to make more sense when I am near the ocean.

Our family house is in Cherry Grove, SC but we love to take a day trip north to Southport, NC.

Danny’s World: I Need A Vacation From My Vacation!

We arrived home from Naples on Tuesday night and it has taken me until today to recover from vacation.  It might have been the 13 hour drive in the car that wore me out.  Regardless, I am still tired.  I need a vacation from my vacation.

We visited a place called the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

It was a great trip with great friends.  Now we are ready to plan our next trips: Great Smokey Mountains and Cherry Grove Beach!!

I Love the Anticipation of Vacation!

One of my favorite things in the world is the excitement that comes along with anticipating a vacation.  I have spent the last week watching videos on YouTube about Naples, Florida.  I have found several unique restaurants we will visit and many shopping areas Evelina will enjoy.   Our condo is right on the beach with a courtyard which is only feet from the sand.  We haven’t been to the condo in a couple of years and it will be nice to see the renovations completed.

I am currently building a territory at my job which requires a lot of hours and a lot more effort than managing an existing territory.  It will be a nice break to recharge the batteries for a week.

Needless to say I am as excited as a kid at Christmas!
