Nostalgic About Halloween Candy

Macro close-up of candy

Halloween is right around the corner and the stores are loaded with bags of candy for trick-or-treaters.

I love my weekly photo challenges and I couldn’t believe that the planets (or pumpkins?) aligned for a photo challenge trifecta!

Candy Close-up for Halloween photo challenge.

Nothing is more nostalgic than a bowl of candy for Halloween. I remember loving Tootsie Rolls and Tootsie Pops as a kid.

According to the Tootsie Roll Industries’ company history, Leo Hirschfeld began selling the chewy candies in his little shop in New York City in 1896.

We buy the huge bag and donate most of it to our church’s Harvest/Halloween Festival, then distribute some to the neighborhood trick-or-treaters.

Halloween

Most may know, but for those unaware here is a brief history of Halloween!

Chocology Today

HappyHalloween

Our kids get excited about dressing up and filling their pails with candy. It’s become such a popular holiday that Americans are estimated to spend a whopping $2.5 billion this season on Halloween candy alone!

Almost all of us celebrate to one extent or another, but have you ever wondered how Trick-or-Treating came to be? Disguising our children and allowing them to beg candy from strangers is, well, a little strange. Chocology wanted to know the history, so we went on a mission to find out how Trick-or-Treating on Halloween came to be.

Halloween came about as a celebration of All Hallows Eve (the day before All Saints Day), a Christian holiday in which the dead are remembered, particularly martyrs and saints. All Saints Day coincided with a Celtic…

Poké Ball Candy Piñatas

Meet Skill Up Skillet!

Skill Up Skillet

I don’t know about you but I’ve been on a big Pokémon kick lately. Also, I’ve been beyond-inundated with work lately (as I’m sure you’ve noticed with my late posts) and needed something fun. What could be easier or more fun than making Poké Ball Candy Piñatas? This recipe (if you can even call it that) is as easy as it gets: Candy shell, decoration, filling. Best of all, no actual cooking required! If you’d like, you could even get creative and use decorating icing to create other types of Poké Balls: Great, Ultra, Master… have fun with it! These would be perfect party favors at any Pokémon-themed birthday party or event.

Just… don’t throw these at people. Or animals. Or anything living, really. Non-gaming violence is bad, mmkay?

I decided to fill my piñatas with a playful combination of Nerds candies and Everlasting Gobstoppers, with a few of my…
