When we think of friends what is the first thing that come’s into your mind ? Is it the person that you have known all your life, the person you met a few years ago,but has a special bond, the person that understands you better than anyone else or maybe the person who is always there for you no matter what…..

Friendship is something that is found between two people, it is not always something that has to be worked at, it is a magical thing that bond’s those people together, no matter what, through single days, between marriage, break ups, children, death’s and births, up and down everyday problems and at times some pretty serious obstacles that life just love’s popping in there. This could be an illness, financial disaster a total of the rails experience, and if that special person your friend is still there through all of what it may be, you…

A Big Announcement Coming In 2018

DreamBig 2018

I have something I will be talking about in 2018 that is incredibly personal; probably more personal than any topic I’ve ever discussed on my page.  It relates to something that has revealed itself in my therapy and I’m not even sure how I’m going to tackle it.  I know it is a big deal for me based solely on the fact that I have found myself reluctant to even discuss it at all and, based on the fact that I talk more openly on Dream Big than anywhere else in my life,  I have major reservations.

I have cried more this past week than I have over any one thing.  It has rocked me to my core and has created a lot of uncertainty in my spirit and mind; honestly I feel myself going into a bit of depression.  The only reason I don’t start writing about it now is I don’t think I am through the “processing” aspect of the realization.  In time I’ll begin writing about it and I can see Dream Big taking a slight turn in focus for quite some time.

For now I’m going to leave it alone, I simply wanted to let everyone know what is going on and what is in store for the future.  I hope all of you have a great New Year and a productive beginning to 2018!!

Your friend,

Quote(s) of the day

It's Me Saraa

I got confused whether to put Quote or Quotes.. but since they go back to the same thing .. it doesn’t actually mattter.

Never give up on your dreams. Chase them and don’t be afraid. You’ll only get there by working hard hard hard hard.

One day you’ll look back and say : I did it.

Live for that moment, work for that moment.

While waiting at Winners…

Cyranny's Cove

For a while now, I’ve been partners with Danny.

Like a lot of you, I follow his blog for a daily dose of inspiration and thought provoking interaction. No wonder why he came to my mind, when I spotted this mug while waiting to pay at Winners.

And like Danny, it was the unique one! 🙂

Danny’s World: Why I Do Not Use WordAds On Dream Big

In 2015 I set a goal to get my monthly views to a level so my blog would qualify for WordAds-the WordPress version of Google’s Adwords advertising program.  I had lofty dreams of adding the ads program to begin my journey of becoming a paid blogger.  Up to that point in my blogging “career” all I ever read were articles on monetizing a blog.   I would soon realize that monetizing a blog is not an easy task.

At any rate, I did reach my goal and in October 2015 WordPress informed me that I would be able to enable WordAds on my page.  Over the next 6 months I watched intently for the money to come rolling in and focused on driving more views to my page. At that time I didn’t have the views I have today, but I did have a couple of months that eclipsed 50,000 views in a month-and I was proud of that fact.   These views didn’t equate to money though.

I have 3 basic problems with the ads program:

  1. It slowed down the load time of my page dramatically.
  2. The ads took up space in my sidebar which pushed my page’s info down below-the-fold.
  3. The ads didn’t produce enough revenue.  As a matter of fact, the best month I ever had in ad revenue was $35.00 and that represented 60,000 monthly views!  All that work to drive views so WordPress could deposit $35 in my PayPal account.

So when I evaluated the slower load time and the space ads consumed on my page I made the decision to disable ads and I have not regretted the decision.

The entire experience was disappointing to say the least.

I Am Eliminating a Few Things From My Eating Regimen

Beginning today I am turning over a new leaf.  I am eliminating a few things from my eating regimen for the foreseeable future:

  • bread
  • candy
  • sodas
  • pastas
  • refined sugars
  • processed foods

Why?  Because these types of foods are killing me and keeping me from living to full-capacity.  It is time for a change.

Is It Time for You to Find Your Inner Spectacular?

I was thinking today and a question came to mind: Why aren’t there more amazing and spectacular people?  Before you get your feathers ruffled, I am not referring to being a great person but to accomplishing great, amazing things.  Why are there not more Steve Jobs, Michael Jordans, Muhammad Alis, Thomas Edisons, Edwin C. Barnes,  etc.?

I believe that every single human being has in them the potential for great and amazing things; a light, a spark.  Bill Gates was once quoted as saying, “I don’t believe there is anything unique about human intelligence,” and I could not disagree more.  I know as sure as anything I’ve ever experienced that human intelligence is what makes each of us so incredibly unique and special.

It allows us to experience the exact same world in 7.125 billion different ways.  But, with that said why do so many of us sacrifice our uniqueness and allow “life” to squeeze us through a sieve and mold us into individuals that, all to often, fear being different?  If you believe and understand that there are no two human beings that are the same, why do we teach to conform?

We should be teaching the individual to celebrate and announce his or her uniqueness from the mountain top!!!

But as we learn quickly in life, the norm will move swiftly to extinguish any hint of creativity or originality.

Take for example how teenagers learn (I’ll use my teen years as example).  If you don’t wear a Members Only jacket or glacier glasses, you are out.  If you don’t own a pair of Vans, you are out.  If you don’t like Break Dancing, you are out.  I realize I am dating myself, but if nothing else maybe it got a couple laughs.

From a very young age we are conditioned to go with the norm and to keep our uniqueness to a minimum.  After all no one wants to be different lest they be branded the “weird kid.”

After college it is expected that you will get a good job, pay taxes, buy a car and that is the path to becoming a contributing member of society.  Then get married, start a family, raise your family, retire and enjoy the fruits of your hard work.  And I guess there’s nothing wrong with that, but what about living a life that is spectacular?

Is that not possible for us all?  Are we supposed to believe that all there is to life is paying rent or mortgages, bills and hoping one day to have enough to retire?  There has to be more.  If not, I’m checking out.

I challenge each of you to try something new and different.  Find something that is so outside of your “world” or comfort zone and participate.  What is one thing you would be afraid to do?  Sky dive, public speaking, hold a spider?  How about something you’ve always wanted to do but have not?   Guitar lessons, enter an open mic night,  join a poetry club, start up a band!, take a class at the community college, join a theater group or VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME AT A LOCAL CHARITY!!

I want you to challenge yourself.  Show yourself you are capable.  This world is here for us to experience and it is time for more of us to do so!  Get uncomfortable and reignite that spark that makes you, YOU!  It is time to break the mold that life presses us into and spread those wings and fly!

…And They Were All Told They Could Not Succeed

There have been many people in history that succeeded even when experts told them they could not and would not. So why did they continue?  If today you started out to find a way to build a bridge to England from the United States, but engineering experts told you it was impossible, would you continue or quit?

What is inside a person that convinces them to continue on a journey in the face of ultimate opposition?

When I think of this situation my mind immediately goes to Tesla, Edison, Orville and Wilbur Wright, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, Steve Jobs, Tom Brady and Henry Ford.  All of these individuals rose to amazing achievements in their industry, some personally and some for the advantage of humankind.

GreatnessAnd they were all told they would not and could not succeed.

In the 1920’s Henry Ford was losing sales to Chevrolet’s new V6 engine and Ford needed to compete.  He had refused to build a V6 because of mechanical problems AND he didn’t want to follow Chevrolet, he wanted to be an industry leader.

So he commissioned his engineers to build an affordable V8 engine.  He was told by every consultant and family member including Edsel, that the project was impossible.  So, against his adviser’s recommendation he funded the project which failed time and time again.  His engineers returned to him after each failed attempt and Ford responded by giving them more money and encouraging them that they were on the brink of changing the world.

After many failed attempts the engineers returned to inform Mr. Ford that they had accomplished his vision and the V8 was introduced in March 1932.

Once again I ask: what is it inside of a man or woman that makes them defy common thought and rise to greatness?

I leave you with this quote attributed to Steve Jobs:

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.

Being willing to chase your dream can be a very scary endeavor, but the alternative leads to a slow death.

Just a thought on a Wednesday morning…

10 Powerful Quotes from Steve Jobs and What They Teach Us About Leadership

dream_big_superman_by_wolfaddictIt is a well-known fact that Steve Jobs was a pioneer in technology.  His vision and romantic view of the world reminds me of Walt Disney.  Both men saw life with child-like eyes.  They refused to believe in limits and disallowed people to place them in a box.  We could all learn from them.

Remember, you must get busy working toward your dreams or you will spend your life working to build someone else’s.
