Let me ask you a question…

Can you name something that someone in your life does that annoys you, but truth be told if they stopped you might miss it?

Mahogany Obsidian in the Morning Light

Element

Obsidian is a naturally forming volcanic glass. This makes it neither a crystal nor a mineral, but I refer to it as a mineral. I have a couple of specimens, a black tumbled stone and a sphere of Snowflake Obsidian, but I had never seen Mahogany Obsidian prior to finding this gorgeous piece in a local shop called Mystic Moraine Minerals. The staff is amazing and very knowledgeable. They offer a wide range of crystals and mineral for sale, both raw and tumbled. They also offer classes in wire wrapping and other interesting crystal related things. If you would like to check out the Facebook page you can find it at @MysticMoraine

Like all Obsidian, this variety can be found anywhere there is or has been volcanic activity, but two nice sources are China and India. It gets its beautiful color from either Magnetite or Hematite inclusions in the molten material. As the lava cools it can form…

A Quick Update If You Are Interested…

A Quick Update If You Are Interested…

I know it has been a minute since I last posted something other than a reblog or a question.  The truth is I haven’t had much interest in writing anything and I’m not sure why.  Every time I’ve opened up a new draft I have deleted it after a few seconds and then moved on to something else.

Today Evelina and I are going to Tanger Outlet to do a little shopping.  The strange thing is it was my idea and I’m actually looking forward to walking around and looking at stuff.  I’d like to find a new belt, a couple of packs of new white t-shirts and maybe a new shirt.  Plus they have a little food court there where we might be able to find a good lunch.

Other than that not much new going on in our lives.  Oh, we are building a new house which is incredibly exciting and stressful all at the same time.

I am not traveling as much with the job, but it looks like that will end in the next couple months and then I’ll be out on the road.  I was a little upset about getting grounded, but I’m realizing that everything seems to work out for a reason and I believe my body and mind needed the break.

That’s all for now.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Tit for tat, you reblog my post, I reblog yours.  It might take a few days, but eventually I will get to your link…promise.  🙂

Lee Tubman: Meet the Judge!

HorseAddict

I spoke recently with FEI 3* judge Lee Tubman. I have done lots of interviews with dressage riders and I thought it was time to get a judge’s perspective.Every horse and rider enters the dressage arena at A , halts at X, and salutes the judge who is at C. In the international competitions there are five judges and the judge at C is the President of the Ground Jury. In the World Championships and Olympics there are seven judges.

How did you start on your journey to be a judge?

I was on the Canadian Young Riders Team at the North American Championships in 1985 and I decided I wanted to understand more about how I received marks in the tests. I also wanted to know what the judges were looking at during a test. So I took a judging course. I’m a person who enjoys being on a…

Let me ask you a question…

If someone is passionate about their career, can work-life balance be achieved?  If you believe so, how do you think it could be accomplished?

Country Egg and Sausage Breakfast Casserole

What's for Dinner Moms?

The cold has broken and it was over a 90 degree temperature change between yesterday and last week. Things are getting slushy so we are trying to get everything up and off the driveway and sidewalks so that it doesn’t freeze. At least it is warm enough now to do this.

End of the month and finding a last package of country sausage at the bottom of the freezer is a great find in our house. I had a coupon to use for the local grocery store and potatoes and eggs were on sale so we able to get those things for $1.37. Yes! It is the little joys when you get towards the end of the month when  you are only paid once a month.

Verdict:

We love breakfast for dinner. I love making all the pieces of the casserole the night before so I can put it all…
